P. Xiu receives DOE NSUF RTE award
Award for Pengyuan Xiu’s U.S. Department of Energy – Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) Rapid Turnaround Experiment (RTE) proposal to complete atom probe tomography of additively manufactured HT9 alloys was announced today!

New GPU cluster installed and operational
Today we installed our new Lambda Vector GPU workstation in our NOME offices. This system uses four Nvidia RTX A5000 GPUs with NVLink to perform our machine learning training and testing tasks as part of our deep learning detection project.

New publications by NOME lab
Prof. Field co-authored two new papers this Fall: A paper that highlighta the ability for machine learning to perform automated detection and tracking in in situ TEM videos. The paper is tied to our project on exploring convolutional neural networks for defect detection.

P. Xiu entered as finalist in Gen IV pitch your research
Pengyuan Xiu was selected to present his work as a finalist in the Generation IV International Forum “Pitch your Gen IV Research” competition for junior researchers. The competition is for PhD students who are working on research related to Gen IV nuclear reactor concepts.

M. Lynch announced as NSTGRO21 recipient
Congratulations to Matt Lynch for being selected as an awardee for the 2021 NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunities (NSTGRO21) researcher. The proposal was titled, “Additively manufactured self-repairing Ni metal composite through high aspect ratio pathways” and will look at novel techniques to develop high sink strength Ni-based alloys for nuclear power and propulsion.

P. Xiu wins Towner Prize
Congratulations to Pengyuan Xiu for winning the Towner Prize for the Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences Department. The award is presented to an outstanding graduate student in each degree program and determined based on the awardee’s active participation in research, leadership, and academic performance.

Theia Scientific announces SBIR award for NOME
Prof. Field has been been awarded funding for research as part of a joint proposal with Theia Scientific, LLC to the SBIR Phase I Release 1 program within the U.S. Department of Energy - Office of Science.
